Pastor

  • Gil Suh grew up in a Buddhist family in Korea and immigrated to the States as a teenager. Gil was baptized at the age of 19. After graduating from Biola University, Gil went to Calvin Theological seminary where he met his wife, Joyce (Scholten) from Canada. They moved to Nigeria and taught at a Bible school in a rural area for six years during which their three children were born.

Gil’s family had to leave Nigeria unexpectedly due to tribal violence. After serving a congregation of young adults in San Jose, CA, for four years, they moved to Cambodia in 2008 to do the mission work of mentoring and training emerging leaders in Cambodia.

While Gil and Joyce were on "home leave" from their mission work, they visited San Jose Christian Reformed Church, their commissioning congregation. Gil preached at the church's first in-person worship service after the pandemic on Easter, 2021. The church was without a pastor at the time. Gil felt called to become the pastor of San Jose CRC to help them as they went through a process of discerning their future. He began his time at San Jose CRC in September, 2021.

Gil and Joyce Suh are both ordained ministers of Christian Reformed Church of North America (CRCNA). Joyce currently serves as the Global Area Director for Resonate Global Mission, the denominational mission agency of CRCNA. Gil likes playing basketball and tennis, and Joyce loves reading various novels. They both enjoy hiking.
